How to store a scroll

1.First take up the both roller ends and roll up the scroll. Please do not roll it up too tightly.

2.When you roll it up to the upper end of the artwork, place the scroll on the clean floor.

3.Fold the Futai ribbons according to the way shown in the picture. There are some scrolls (Bunjin Hyogu) without Futai. If the floor is not clean, hold the scroll up-side-down and fold the Futai if no other choice is available.

4.Please insert the protection paper as indicated in the picture.
(If there is no protection paper available, you can do without it but it can prevent ribbon marks on the fabric wrapping the roller crosspiece)

5.Bind the rolled-up scroll with a binder as indicated in the picture (see the illustration)

6.Leave approximately 30 to 40 cm of the binder unbound (you do not have to exactly measure the length of the binder)

7.Make a loop with a binder and put it through the hanger ribbon (see the illustration)

8.Make the right and the left of the binder balanced in length.

9.Place one of the roller ends onto the roller support in the box then place the other end onto the support. Place the roller on the thick side of the support.
Thin paper can be placed between the support and the roller as a shock absorber (see the picture).

Did you find it a little bit difficult? With about 5-minutes practice, you can do it easily. Please remember to handle the scroll carefully. The most important thing to remember is do not roll up the Futai together with the scroll. If you do so, Futai will be too curly to be hung down straight when the scroll is displayed again .
