How to display Kakejiku?

.Kakejiku hanging scrolls are usually stored in wooden boxes (usually made of paulownia). After opening the box, pick up the center of the hanger band and hold one of the roller ends to take the scroll out of the box .

.If there is a protection paper called maki-gami rolled up with the scroll, take off the paper and half-spread the scroll on the tatami-mat or if there is no tatami-mat in your house then use the wide clean table (see the picture). Then take out the folded Fuutai ribbons (Bunjin Hyogu scrolls have no Fuutai). If there is no clean floor space or a clean desk, you can spread Fuutai with the hanger bands on the hook as shown below.
.Hang the hanger band with Yahazu (two-pronged bamboo stick) or by hand if you can reach the hook and hang the scroll on the hook and hold the roller crosspiece .

.Hold both of the roller ends with both hands and gradually spread the scroll. Please make sure to go down with your body as you spread the scroll downwards or your hair might be caught on the artwork.

.Look at the hanging scroll and see if it is hung to a level. The ornament called "Fuchin" or a pair of scroll tasseled weights can be hung upon a scroll's bottom, if you like, to make the scroll look more decorative.
.It would be the best to display in a calm room. If you display a hanging scroll in a breezy location, the scroll will flutter away from the wall. Fuchin weights can help to hold it into a more straightened position.
