In the margin to the bottom left, the title of this work "Mi-dera no Benkei Chikaramochi" is shown.
Mi-dera is a temple located around the southwest of Biwako (Lake Biwa).

Benkei Chikaramochi is a name of the rice-cake dish which is local specialties there. The name of the dish has the origin which Benkei who was a loyal servant of Minamotono Yoshitsune dragged the huge bell of Mi-dera to Mt. Hiei. A strong man in Japanese is Chikaramochi and here people used wordplay (mochi meaning rice cake). Shown here, the people may eat that in the precinct of the temple.

Visitors who went up the stepping-stones for paying homage at the temple are nicely depicted and the Lake Biwa and Otsu town spread out under them.

Bright spring day when cherry blossom flowers are in full bloom that is one of the most beautiful and traditional symbols of Japanese spring completes this peaceful landscape.

Under the title of this work, the production date "April Showa10 (1936)" is shown.
