Tsukioka Yoshitoshi(1839-1892) is widely recognized as the last great master of Ukiyo-e. In addition, he is regarded as one of the form’s greatest innovator and an artist who was almost single handly struggle against the time and techonology for pushing the traditional Japanese woodblock prints to a new level.

One autumn night, Tsuchigumo (monstrous spider) was trying to suffer Yorimitsu(Raiko), but one of his followers, Sakata no Kintoki, pretend as asleep in order to eliminate spider's trap.

Here, Sakatano Kintoki was tormented by a monstrous spider ( Tsuchigumo ) that is dipicted with a disguised as a woman. Portrayed without feet of the woman implys that is a ghostly thing. The celebrated sword beside suffering Kintoki hints the starting of a battle. The story was told in the famous play " Tsuchigumo ".

The series title is shown to the upper right in red.And the so long title of thiw work ,"In Ten'en 4( 976 ) aki youkai tsuchigumo Minamotono Yorimitsu ga shinjo wo nayamashi Sakatano Kintoki ratono isonoyouwo harauwo hossuru no zu, is next to it.
The artist signature Yoshitoshi and his seal are to the bottom right corner of the image. The publisher information is given under his seal.
