Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950 was a leading figure in the shin hanga (new print) movement. The majority of his prints are richly detailed landscapes, featuring such diverse subjects. His works are highly valued not only in Japan but also in overseas.
Motif of this work is a temple named "Ninnaji" which had special relation with the Imperial House since imperial residence was temporarily located there in the Heian period (the 10th century). The title of this work "Omuro" is another name of Ninnaji and Omuro means residence of emperor.
Also, this temple was famous sight for its beautiful cherry blossom view and many tourists visited there every spring.
Light colors are used for the gate of the temple and these subtle tones create not only beautiful piled up shades, but also depth in this work.
Perspective of trees and loads of timbering of the roof are tactfully depicted by Hiroshi.
In the upper left margin, the seal of "Zizuri" and the production date (1940) are shown.
