Odake Kokkan (1880-1945) created this artwork. He studied under Kobori Tomone and became a Japanese style painter, specialising in historical subjects. He exibited at official art shows like the publicly sponsored Bunten exhibitions. He was also a frequent prize-winner at various exhibitions, winning his first major prize in 1907.
In this work, a celestial maiden who is flying over the Mt. Fuji and pine tree field that were only drawn slightly is depicted gracefully, and this subject of paintings is said to be quite fit for Kokkan's marvellous art productions.
Her description which is dressed with gold cloth which is waving in the wind and long sleeves gives lively sense to this work.
In addition, her facial expression was depicted like comics and it shows Kokkan's one of his specialties, illustration. Such his combined expression makes his works very unique.
From this work, his earnest attitude towards arts as a painter and his solid art skills can be seen.
There is Rakkan (an article's sign and seal) on the bottom right of the image.
