This artwork belongs to the genre called Abuna-e.
Abuna-e is erotic or suggestive pictures. Derived from the word "abunai" meaning dangerous or risque. More explicit works of art are called shunga. Abuna-e capture glimpses of nude or partially nude females involved in everyday activities such as bathing, washing their hair, enjoying the cool of the evening, or putting on makeup.

Although there is no rakkan (artist's signature and seal) applied to this artwork, this artwork is attributed to Kikugawa Eizan.

Kikugawa Eizan (1787-1867) was an ukiyo-e painter and print artist, he worked at first for his father who was a Kano school artist, and then studied under Nanrei and Hokkei. He was influenced by Utamaro and Hokusai. During a period which was witnessing the manifest artistic decline of ukiyo-e, a period without first-rate artists or critics, Eizan, along with Toyokuni, was among the leading exponents of bijin-ga. His motifs were primarily standing female figures in a tranquil atmosphere.

This may be one scene at the yuukaku (brothel). The male customer made the courtesan to pour sake in the cup and is offering yuujyo (courtesan) to drink a cup of sake. The yuujyo is leaning backwards with her left hand landing on the floor while holding a sake carafe in her right hand. The man and the courtesan seem like nearly falling upon each other thus making this artwork look somewhat risque.

Quiet shades of yellow and green and its use of graphic patterns are creating chic atmosphere of this artwork.

Good impression and colors
Some worm hole repaired, slight stains and trimmed
