Mori Tetsuzan (1775-1841) created this work, and he was known for his animal paintings and was one of the ten best pupils of Maruyama Okyo who was a founder of the Maruyama School, and combined Japanese themes and materials with elements of Western realism.
Later, Tetsuzan founded the Mori School which mastered Okyo’s delicate style of painting and developed his own bold manner using strong stroke.
Motif of this work, crows like persimmons, and this relationship is frequently used for haiku; therefore, this subject of the painting is said to be haiku-like. Crow’s feathers that are depicted with good balance between boldness and precision give fine impression.
The artist's signature and his seal are shown at the lower right of the image. It comes with its original wooden box.
