Suzuki Harunobu (1724-1770) was a Japanese woodblock print artist, one of the most famous in the Ukiyo-e style. Harunobu was one of the leading print artists of his time and played a major role in the development of nishiki-e.
He used many special techniques, and depicted a wide variety of subjects, from classical poems to contemporary beauties. Like many artists of his day, Harunobu also produced a number of shunga, or erotic images.
The season of this work is summer. In a Kaya (mosquito net ), a interwinding man and woman are spreading over a man who is covering his head with futon (Japanese quilt).
The man who is in the futon seems to be confused and he is covering his ears. On the contrary, the man and woman seems to be enjoying this situation to the maximum. The relationship of this three is not obvious, therefore, it depends on your imagination.
These Harunobu's Shunga indicate his outstanding creativity and originality.
Good impression and color Slightly worn and soiled
