Ito Shinsui (1898-1972) was the pseudonym of a Nihonga painter and ukiyo-e woodblock print artist in Taisho and Showa period Japan. He led the shin hanga art movement which revitalized the traditional art after it began to decline with the advent of photography in the early 20th century.
A beautiful woman with her back straight walking under the blanches of rose plum. She has white skin, big black eyes and abundant black hair like a typical Japanese beauty. She wears a kimono in cherry rose appropriate for the new year. Based on the Ukiyo-e style, a modern lady living in Syowa era was reflected on this artwork.
The inscription on the cloth says "March in 1933". And seal.
