Kawase Hasui(1883-1957) : Known for his exquisite landscape prints, Kawase Hasui was one of the most prolific and talented shin hanga artists of the early 20th century. He designed around six hundred prints total, mainly for the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo, although he also worked for several others briefly. Many people feel that Hasui's most original work was done at the beginning of his career. Unfortunately, the blocks for these early prints were destroyed in the devastating 1923 earthquake and they were never reprinted. Consequently, Hasui's pre-earthquake prints are among the rarest and most sought-after shin hanga.

A girl staring at the distance placing a hand on the thread ball. Her expression looks somehow sad. The artwork depicting a typical girl in Showa era having a bob styled hair and wearing apron is one of the series of Hasui's wood-block prints named "Kodomo Jyuunidai"(Twelve Subjects of Child). Hasui is called "Hiroshige in Showa" and is good at expressing Japanese beautiful sceneries. This artwork also looks like a picture taken of the girl, in which you see Hasui's beauty sense.
