Whole Hannya Shingyo is copied in San(Gasan). Kannon in white sitting on a rock could be the most popular subject among Kannon paintings. In Japan, there are also many Kannon paintings in which Kannon have been deformed the feature, but those Reika painted are highly strict and awesome. The lines carefully drawn one by one show Reika's spirit.
Kikkawa Reika (1875〜1929) was a great Yamato-e painter who kept Japanese traditional Yamato-e technique even in the 20th century. He studied kanō school and Tosa school. Moreover,he played an active part in Nihon-bijutsu-kyokai(Japan Art Association) and Bun-ten(Bun-ten Exhibition). The profound works he drew with abundant knowledge of classic culture was held in great respect by many painters in the Taisho period.
