This is an artwork depicted a battle in the Yellow Sea in the Japanese-Sino War. A wild sea. Into the strong waves, a Chinese military ship is sinking. The color of fire is characteristic, and it tells a dramatic change is being made in the thick smoke. The Chinese soldiers, frightened, ran to the edge of the ship to get out of the fire and jumped into the water. This artwork played a role of visually telling Japanese people the achevement of the Japanese army. This is a relic of the newspapaper color woodblock prints that were popular in the early Meiji era.
Triptych Slightly stained and soiled. A hole on the center print and wears in the corners
Migita Toshihide (1862-1925) was a Ukiyoe painter from Oita Pref. He learned from Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, and worked for Tokyo Asahi Shimbun as an illustrator and provided with war pictures and Beauty in color woodblock print.
