This is a brocade picture in Meiji era taken the subjet from the historical figure. In this painting, Murasaki Shikibu was depicted at the center and her biography was written in the right above. Shikibu known for the author of The Tale of Genji had a gift of litterature and was so intelligent as to like reading the Chinese litterature although she was a servant in the royal palace. In this artwork also, Shikibu is giving a lecture to noble women.

Adachi Ginko (birth and death date unknown)was active over the period from the end of Edo to the late Meiji era. Mainly depicted actor/play paintings and incident paintings.
