Paul Jacoulet was a French ukiyo-e artist who grew up in Japan. Since childhood he had got familiar with Japanese paintings and calligraphies. So he started painting in rich-toned watercolors with absorbing a Japanese-styled sense. In 1934 Jacoulet produced his first print based on the sketches of Micronesia where he he often visited after 1929. In fact this "Young Girl of Saipan and Hibiscus Flower" was the starting point for his career as a printmaker. Later he made trips to China and Korean peninsula and drew local people there for new prints one after the other.
Good impression, colors and condition.
