"Bankoku Jinbutsu Zue (Figure paintings of foreigners)" was a Gokan of Kanagaki Robun, a writer active from the late Edo to the early Meiji, to which Yoshitsuya offered his illustrations. In this print depicted is an Englishman in slightly awkward look standing with a gun in both hands. This kind of composition began with Robun's another Gokan called "Bankoku Banashi" with Yoshitora's illustrations. The color contrast seen in the face and costume is characteristic of Yokohama-e and never seen in Beauty and Okubi-e (actor's painting).
Repaied holes, slightly soiled and rubbed.
Utagawa Yoshitsuya (February 22, 1822 - August 2, 1866) was an Ukiyoe painter of Edo period.
