Yoshida Hiroshi has a fixed image as a landscape wood-block print artist, so this figure print should be quite rare among his many prints. A young woman is taking care of herself in front of a mirror in a dark Japanese house. The letters "Self-printed (in English)" in the margin means it was printed by Yoshida himself, not by any other professional printer. The creation was in 1927, at his age of 51.
Good color and impression. Slightly soiled.
Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) was a 20th century Japanese painter and woodblock print maker. He is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the shin hanga style, and is known especially for his excellent landscape prints. Yoshida travelled widely, and was particularly known for his images of non-Japanese subjects done in traditional Japanese woodblock style, including the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks in the USA.
