Here depicted is the battle of Yalu River (Oct.24-25, 1894) in Sino-Japanese War. Lieutenant General NOZU, a main character in this artwork, made an achievement for the success to have attacked the Qing Army being on the opposite riverside from its both sides. This artwork was produced for the purpose of visually informing Japanese people of his wonderful achievement, and this is called Shinbun Nishikie (newspaper color woodblock prints), popular in the early Meiji period.
Yosai Nobukazu (1872-1944) was an Ukiyoe Painter in the Meiji period.
Triptych connected and pasted on paperboard. Small holes and stains in the left piece, slightly toned.
