The subject of this artwork is Kasuganotsubone, the foster mother of Tokugawa III Iemitsu. She is also known as a powerful woman. It is said that before she served as a foster mother, she fought against robberies who had broken in her house and kicked them out. Probably this artwork is the one inspired by the episode. Her look raising her sward high up in front of robberies is brave but elegant.
