Here is Tsukioka Yoshitoshi's representative artwork, Tsukihyakushi, the 100 moon paintings. The name indivudually given to this painting is "Sadaie, Sumiyoshi No Meigetsu, the beatutiful moon in Sumiyoshi". in this artwork, all of the 100 paintings are related to the moon. He began creating in 1885 and completed in the previous year of his death.
Fujiwara No Teika was praying at night in the Sumiyoshi temple but fell asleep and had a dream of God. The detail depiction on the serenity of background is impressive. The smoke rising has an effect to express a dream. You can see Yoshitoshi's originality stepped ahead of the existing ukiyoe.
