Tsukihyakushi is the representative artwork by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. 100 pieces of paintings related to "moon" began to be created in 1885 and completed in the previous year of his death.
Fujiwara No Yoshitaka was excellent in academics from his childhood, and was having a talent of poems, but chose Buddhism to avoid his brother's jealousy. One day, however, both of them suddenly died on the same day because of smallpox. This artwork shows Yoshitaka deep in thoughts at the backyard of the Sesonji Temple in the suburb of Kyoto.
