Tsukioka Yoshitoshi depicted a lot of mysterious, inteligent and sexy beauties. This artwork belongs to a set of 32 aspects which subjects are female figures given different discriptions. This shows Honen's unique sense. Also this is known as one of his representative beauties, succeeding Utagawa Toyokuni III's 32 aspects.
The subtitle of this artwork is "Looks wanting to take a walk, the Wife's culture in the Meiji era." The subject is the aristocratic woman in dress that was still rare at that time. The vivid colors look to show the new age. The umbrella symbolizes the women living in the Cultural Inlightenment, and can frequently be seen in the brocade pictures made at that time.

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi(1839-1892) is widely recognized as the last great master of Ukiyo-e. In addition, he is regarded as one of the form’s greatest innovator and an artist who was almost single handly struggle against the time and techonology for pushing the traditional Japanese woodblock prints to a new level.
