Yokoyama Taikan (1868-1958) was a Nihonga painter from Ibaraki, who founded Nihon Bijutsu In along with Okakura Tenshin. As a Master, he showed Modern Japanese paintings the way to go.
After Hishida Shunso’s famous work “Rakuyo”, Rin School came to be recognized again. Taikan’s decorative and colorful elegance bloomed in the Taisho era as if he had taken over Hishida’s will. The composition is mainly consisted of Tarashikomi, one of Rin School’s technique.
