This is one of a series of ukiyoe inspired by a drama, Chinsetsu Yumiharizuki. The model is Princess Shiranui, wife of Tametomo, who was good at military art, especially, Naginata. In the episode, she got on board for going to kill Taira No Kiyomori, but hit by a storm, so she threw herself into the sea as a sacrifice to calm down the storm.
