Nomura Yoshimitsu was a pupil of Nomura Yoshikuni who was called "Kobayashi Kiyochika in the Kansai region". As taking over Yoshikuni's style, Yoshimitsu picked up a popular theme and depicted the ordinary people's culture by snapshot strokes. This is one of Kyoto Meisho series, the painter's masterpiece. Daimonji-yaki, candles lit in the form of a chinese caracter meaning "Big", is a traditional Summer spectacle in Kyoto. People in the crowd is vividly depicted.
