The details of his biography hasn’t be clear, but it seemed that he was a rural painter who went up to a big city like Edo or Osaka, where he copied paintings of famous painters to make a living. In this painting depicted are courtesans in Osaka where a lot of licensed quarters were located, and also where Nobukage was staying for work. Although he is an unrenowned painter, his strong brushstroke depicted, without hesitation, women’s emotions as seen in a woman’s lips firmly biting a cloth and another woman’s sharp eye likely cursing her ex-lover.
