Spring is the time when the willow is brightened most beautifully. The elements decorating the screen such as the delicate young leaves, Shamisen, drum and pattern on the sliding door say the place depicted here is around Nihonbashi where Settai had grown up. The Tatami room is in full of an atmosphere that someone has left just a few minutes ago. It seems to be like a stage ongoing that you are watching in a theater.
Good condition, color and impression
Komura Settai (1887-1940) was very active in the Meiji, Taisho and Showa era. He gained his popularity from bijin-ga (paintings of beauties), book design, illustrations and theatrical design. In particular, he created many book designs and illustrations for Izumi Kyoka’s novels and illustrations.
