As you've already known, first man on the moon, astronaut Neil Armstrong, passed away the other day. And yesterday, I watched the news that a memorial ceremony was held in honor of him.

Unfortunately, I wasn't born when he flied to the moon with the other crews. Yet, his very famous words, "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind." really got to my heart.

Since he set foot on the moon, even though 43 years has passed, only 12 people including him could go there. I think that fact indicates the greatness of his achievement. May he rest in peace.

Since the ancient times, Japanese and the moon have been deeply related.
And there are many ukiyo-e, which the moon is depicted as the subject.
Among those ukiyo-e, "100 views of the moon" by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi can be one of the most famous series.

Yoshitoshi produced many prints depicting the moon. As the one of the reasons, it can be mentioned that "tsuki" of his family name, Tsukioka, means the moon.
This series was produced from 1885-1892, the year Yoshitoshi died, and shows his great achievement.

We sell many out of this series on our website, and please refer to the following link:

This year is 120 years anniversary of his death.
It would be great if I could provide you an opportunity to know about Yoshitoshi's attraction by this newsletter.

Have a nice weekend!

Sincerely yours,

Kenshi
